Who is this course for?

This course is for caregivers who support students with disabilities registered in programs at Lethbridge Polytechnic. The term "caregiver" is used here and throughout the course to include:

parents
guardians
family members
agencies
others who support students

If you are a member of this group, Getting Started with Accessibility for Parents and Caregivers is for you.

The content in this course and the companion courses ensures everyone is aware of accommodations and the individual roles and responsibilities around accommodations. All courses reflect the same content and use the same language. We want the process to be smooth for everyone and to ensure we all have the same information.

As a caregiver of a student with disabilities, this course will give you an idea of:

how the polytechnic supports students with accommodation needs
what options may be available to students

If you've completed this course, you will be able to:

Know accommodations that are available at Lethbridge Polytechnic and how students can access them
Identify effective communication strategies and approaches that build partnerships to support student success
Understand the culture of accessibility, universal design, inclusion, and diversity that exists at Lethbridge Polytechnic.
