Module summary
By this point, you should have a pretty good understanding of the relationship between Indigenous people of Canada and the Government of Canada, particularly in terms of their interactions with the criminal justice system. Starting with colonization, we've explored a series of commissions and inquiries that arose from Canada's efforts to "… get rid of the Indian problem," as Duncan Campbell Scott stated in the 1920s (as cited in Niessen, 2017, p. 35) . Obviously, in attempting to "solve" the problem by making it go away, we have created many more issues, for both Indigenous peoples and the country itself.
